We Choose Kindness!
Our Personal Experiences with Bullying
Chased down, and physically beaten up, over and over again, by schoolmates, Mark was excited to move to a new school and new neighborhood! But it happened again. They moved again, and the bullying and physical violence happened again. Mark’s parents fixed and flipped homes on the WA Peninsula, often while living in the home. He and his family moved 26 times by the time he turned 24. He never felt like he belonged, and he was rarely in one area long enough to build strong friendships, but the bullying and violence followed him every single time. It even followed him to college in Rexburg, ID, where he was once again chased down and physically beaten up. He couldn’t get away from it, so he learned to fight back with anger, and lived behind strong emotional walls of self-defense.
On the other side of Lake Washington, Kitty grew up in a very large, loving family. As a quiet child though, she got lost in the crowd of 15 cousins, and turned to perfectionism to get the attention all kids crave. Unfortunately, this fear of making mistakes led to endless teasing by schoolmates, and very few friendships. She also rarely felt like she belonged, and became painfully shy and afraid to speak up.
These two met, fell in love, and married. As might be expected, Kitty fell into her old habits of being quiet and good to keep peace (aka a doormat), and Mark fell into his old habits of anger as self-defense. While this combination would typically have ended in disaster, these two are Anything but Typical!
Mark & Kitty have invested Thousands of hours, dollars, and tears in doing the emotional work necessary to release their old pains and triggers. You’ll find them both to be confident, compassionate, and kind.
They have a desire to help children and families to avoid going through similar experiences to theirs, and therefore have partnered with Stand4Kind.
The Answer is Education, at the Top
When Mark & Kitty learned about Stand4Kind, they were so impressed that it wasn’t just a program of anti-bullying assemblies for the kids. Kids learn by example, and that comes from the Top; the Principal, Staff, and Teachers. That’s where Stand4Kind starts with their education, and only once the adults are trained and implementing the programs, do they then teach the children. WOW!!
Stand4Kind believes every child deserves a non-threatening environment, and to feel like they belong. Through teaching empathy, self-esteem and kindness, we provide a way for schools to reduce suicide and bullying among students by providing impactful assemblies and training programs. Our goal is to change the culture and climate in schools nationwide by focusing on kindness every day and that by teaching these subjects we can reduce suicide and bullying among students.

Bullying Affects Everyone
Bullying can affect everyone—those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. According to stopbullying.gov, bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and suicide. It is important to talk to kids to determine whether bullying—or something else—is a concern.
Kids Who are Bullied can experience negative physical, social, emotional, academic, and mental health issues.
Kids Who Bully Others can also engage in violent and other risky behaviors into adulthood.
Kids Who Witness Bullying are more likely to have substance abuse, mental health problems, and miss or skip school.
